Back to Iraq

Well, I am going back to Iraq in about 3 weeks. I will go over there and do my best to make the lives of the soldiers and civilians working there under dangerous and uncomfortable circumstances a little better. You would be surprised at the effect a warm shower or a working toilet has on the morale of the soldiers.

There are many people, especially conservatives, who have called me a war profiteer or a hypocrite for working in Iraq. I can't really explain my reasons for wanting to go back. Part of it is financial, part of it is a feeling of not completing my first obligation of one year.

The money is good but it is not much more than I would make here if you break it down to an hourly rate. The work week is 7 days, 12 hours per day unless things go wrong then you work until the work is completed. 84 hours a week minimum. 7 days a week in a hostile environment that is sometimes too cold, often too hot and always dirty and polluted.

I feel a need to go back that I can't explain. It has little to do with money. It is almost a feeling of service to the soldiers. Doing something tangible to make their lives better. Anyone can slap a $2 magnet on their car and say they support the troops but I believe deeds speak louder than words and the person who risks nothing has nothing to lose...or gain.

It is also a slap in the face to the chickenhawk conservatives; some unhealthy need to prove myself to the same idiots I can't stand. Call me an unpatriotic coward will you? I was there, where you? Even though I know nothing I do will ever satisfy the right wing whacko superiority complex (Kerry served in Vietnam but he is a coward, Bush drank and coked it up in the TANG and he is a hero) but it is more for me than them anyway.

I hope to make it back safely and in one piece. I hope my family will forgive my selfish need. I hope to make people's lives better over there, whether they be soldier, civilian or Iraqi and I hope beyond hope that what we do there now will ultimately have a positive outcome.

In closing, here is a picture of me from my last adventure posing with some soldiers we helped with some much needed supplies for their remote camp. You can tell I hate the troops can't you?

I have two kids, a wife and a full time job and I am just to tired to put in a lot of effort on this blog right now so I am going to shut her down. Although I have 20 - 30 page views per day, no one is commenting and without comments, it just ain't much fun.

So, I hope you enjoyed it and I made you think or laugh or, if you are a conservative, made you angry. It was pretty fun sometimes but pure drudgery lately.

Happy Thanksgiving!

One side of my family celebrated tonight and the other side will celebrate again tomorrow. We finally split up the in-law/birth family Thanksgiving celebration into two separate days. Instead of rushing around and not being able to enjoy our meal, we now stuff ourselves at two locations over a two day period. Life is good.

I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends, our great country in which we can still disagree without blowing each other up, my fellow soldiers who follow orders and do the best job they can in dangerous, dirty and thankless situations and I am thankful for the two greatest inventions of all time; hot water and air conditioning without which we would all be stinkier, dirtier and more irritable.

Pass the potatoes and pour on the gravy.

John Murtha gave a speech today calling for our troops to be pulled out of Iraq soon.

How dare Congressman John Murtha criticize our fearless leader George Bush? As right wing talk show host start to beat up on Mr. Murtha, they are painting him as a coward, a quitter and someone willing to surrender to terrorists.

Who is this John Murtha? How dare he speak his mind? What makes him think he can second guess military decisions made by the Bush administration?

He learned about military service from the bottom up, beginning as a raw recruit when he left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marines out of a growing sense of obligation to his country during the Korean War. There he earned the American Spirit Honor Medal, awarded to fewer than one in 10,000 recruits. He rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. He then was assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In 1959, Captain Murtha took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for Vietnam in 1966-67, receiving the Bronze Star with Combat "V", two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He remained in the Reserves until his retirement.

Big Jim Traber, right wing tough guy, failed professional baseball player and talk show host on the 20th rated radio station in Oklahoma City is metaphorically taking his ball and going home.

In a post to his site, which has increasingly banned voices that oppose his right wing propaganda, Jim whines about how much he is attacked and promises to boot anyone who dissents:

Like many right wingers, Traber is starting to feel some heat for all of his lies and blind Bush backing and like all blowhards and bullies, he runs away when people begin to fight back.

With Bush at a 36% approval rating and a majority of Americans now believing Bush is a liar, right wing media is seeing falling ratings and increased dissent among it's callers. But just like the Bush cabal, they shut off dissent by banning anyone who disagrees with them. In the end they create an insulated world far removed from truth in which their delusions continue unchallenged.

A peace group in Maine has the rightwing bloggers demanding an end to free speech and peaceable protest. The right wing propaganda, which is gaining ground in the republican echo chamber (here, here, here and here) is filled with half truths, slander and outright lies.

I spoke to, Arne Springorum, one of the organizers of the memorial (he wanted me to be clear that the flags are a memorial, not a protest) and got some clarification that you won't find on the right wing sites.

The memorial was decided on after the grim milestone of 2000 military deaths in Iraq was reached. The city of Waterville was asked for a permit, which it granted, to use Veterans Memorial Park, a publicly owned property, for the memorial. The white flags were chosen to represent peace and also to emulate military graveyards in Germany, France and the United States which honor US soldiers where the grave markers are always white. I specifically asked Mr. Springorum is he or his group intended to symbolize surrender with the use of the white markers. He stated categorically that was not the group's intention.

The group, Bridges for Peace, attempted to arrange a meeting with veterans groups to work together on an appropriate memorial. The local VFW agreed to meet with the group but not until the 7th of November, weeks after the memorial was scheduled to go up. Bridges to Peace decided to go ahead with their schedule and to seek the VFW's input later.

The goal of the group, according to Springorum, was to memorialize the soldiers and civilians who had lost their lives in the Iraq war. It had nothing to do with Veterans Day, another false claim by the right wing pundits. The memorial has actually been up for nearly two weeks prior to Veterans Day. The fact that Veterans day happened within a few weeks of the 2000th soldier dying in Iraq was just an unfortunate coincidence according to Springorum. They did not intend for the memorial to become a publicity stunt on Veterans day. The only reason it achieved national attention was because of the actions of the VFW members who broke the law and were subsequently arrested.

Right wing bloggers have claimed the group desecrated a cemetary and have dishonered the soldiers buried there. As to the claims that the park is a cemetery, there is some truth to that. The ground was once a military cemetery but the graves and remains were removed decades ago to another location. The ground is now a park with memorial statues to soldiers from the civil war, WWI , WWII, Korea and Vietnam. It is not now a graveyard or cemetery contrary to claims of some bloggers. It honors those who have died in the service of this country. The same thing Bridges for Peace claim they intend.

There is some controversy as to whether or not the permit allows the markers to remain in place beyond the "first snow". Mr. Springorum stated that the permit did call for the memorial to be removed after the first snow but the reason was not an arbitrary time constraint based on something as arguable as what constitutes snowfall, but a safety and respect issue. The snow in Maine can easily cover the 6" to 12" markers and it is at that time that the memorial would be removed. The removal would be to keep the snow from covering the markers and showing disrespect to those they represented, Mr. Springorum explained. The markers are also near a road and path which could cause people to trip over them if they were covered by snow.

There was a dusting of snow in Waterville last Wednesday, it melted in about an hour.

As to the arrest of the veterans who removed the markers, the peace group had little to do with that. The VFW members made it clear in press releases and statements to the police chief and mayor that they would violate the law and remove the markers if the memorial was still up on Veterans day. They even contacted the media to make sure they would be photographed while they vandalized the memorial. They succeeded in getting more attention to the memorial than the prior two weeks of silent contemplation by Bridges for Peace had.

According to Mr. Springorum, the damaging and removal of the group's markers and signs was a routine occurrence. The group has had to replace over 200 of the white markers since the memorial has been erected. "Some of the flags were stepped on and crushed down into the mud," said Mr. Springorum, their first two signs with the numbers of military and civilian dead in Iraq were stolen. Apparently, right wingers vandalizing, stealing and destroying their opponents legally placed property is an acceptable method of protest.

The peace group hopes to reach out to the veterans who are upset by their memorial. They have an open invitation to anyone from the VFW group to meet with them and discuss possible alternatives and an acceptable compromise. So far they are still waiting.

Unlike you, I will not use a day set aside for veterans to further my political agenda. Yesterday was Veterans day. Today is not.

Mr. Bush, I am sick and tired of you crawling onto the bodies of dead people like some sort of carrion parasite to further your political agenda.

You did it at the World Trade Towers rubble. You walked on the ripped flesh and mangled corpses of those you failed to protect and then used their still decomposing cadavers to further your pre-planned strategy for war. You literally used the bodies as a platform to bamboozle the American public into an unneeded war in Iraq. By the way, you still haven't gotten the man responsible for planning and financing the attacks of 9/11, but hey, it has only been 1517 days since you said you would get Osama Bin Laden (You remember Osama don't you?), dead or alive.

You did it yesterday to the 623,000 dead service men and women who sacrificed their lives for the greater good (a patriotic philosophy which somehow escaped your little punk AWOL ass) and used their deaths to further your failed political agenda. You used the 2062 (as of right now) dead service men and women killed in Iraq, deaths you ordered - You; not the democrats, not the liberals, not the left wing, YOU - to attack those who oppose you and your war (now an overwhelming majority of Americans by the way).

Your whole life has been built around taking advantage of those who take the risks, make the sacrifices and pay the price for your arrogance, cowardice and impotence. You had the nerve to play dress up soldier twice in your life, once in the 70's when you "joined" the "champagne" unit in the Texas Air National Guard with no intent of ever risking your prep-school ass and once again when you strutted on the deck of an aircraft carrier with a banner screaming "Mission Accomplished" behind you. You knew there was nothing required of you personally in both instances. You used other's sacrifices to feed your ravenous ego and to portray yourself as something you can never be.

I served my country, I oppose you and this war and have from the beginning. I take great offense at what you did yesterday in the names of my fallen brothers and sisters. Unlike you, I honored their sacrifice on their day. I didn't use it to try to score political points.

Veterans day is over and, hopefully, so is your power to use and abuse the dead for your political gain. That stink is not the deceased you have repeatedly used as props for your neo-con agenda, it is your presidency; rotten, putrid, decaying and soon to be buried by the dust of your failures.

Alan Skorski is a big fat liar

In a weak attempt to cash in on New York Times bestselling author and radio talk show host Al Franken's success, right wing loser Alan Skorski has fired off a poorly written and factually challenged slander piece called "Pants on Fire How Al Franken lies, smears and decieves".

Skorski, a failed congressional wannabe, candy salesman and borderline retard somehow wrote a 332 page book and has so far failed to point out one instance in which Al Franken lied, smeared or decieved anyone. He had his shot on Tucker Carlsons low rated show, The Situation, but his two examples of Franken lying turned out to be...lies.

Mediamatters.org has, rather easily, deconstructed Skorski's two big allegations against Franken. In the first he accuses Franken of lying about Bill O'Reilly's claim of winning a Peabody award when he hosted the television show "Inside Edition" the only problem is that there is repeated documented evidence of O'Reilly claiming just that. He didn't and then changed his story after Franken pointed out what a liar he was.

His second claim is that Franken lied when he called Rush Limbaugh a liar for stating that the majority of minimum wage earners were teenagers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics keeps records of this type of thing and it is pretty easily researched. Franken did and pointed out only 24.8% of minimum wage earners were between the ages of 16-19 (i.e. teenagers). The majority of minimum wage earners are 20 years old and older. Another Skorski lie.

A Salute to Gay Veterans and Service Members

I love to hear a chickenhawk right winger who never had the guts to serve in the military spout his homophobic opinions about gay people in the service. "I wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with one," they say, as they bravely put yet another ribbon magnet on their vehicle. It is pretty obvious, Mr. Chickenhawk that you don't want to be in a foxhole...period. Not with a mouse, not in a house, not here or there not anywhere. The gay thing is just another excuse for your cowardice. It's a good thing the estimated 1,000,000 gay and lesbian veterans served proudly but discreetly or some of those same chickenhawks might have had to suit up.

A recent study estimates there are 65,000 active duty gay service men and women. They still serve under a restrictive "don't ask, don't tell" policy under which they are allowed to join but could be discharged at any time if their sexual orientation is made public.

While working in Iraq, I never heard a soldier mention a fear of homosexuals. I heard complaints about food, accommodations, lack of phones, heat, cold, lack of showers, bad leadership, and various other common criticisms. There were several soldiers who appeared to be gay who did their jobs without problems. Officers and enlisted. I don't think homosexuality is a top ten concern of those serving. I think coming home alive and in one piece is and if your buddy is willing to put his or her life on the line for you and can do the job for which they were trained, then who cares what their sexuality is.

A group of gay service members are suing the U. S. Government over the current policy. I hope these brave men and women win this war, they have served this country bravely and deserve recognition for their sacrifice.

Conservatives love to throw around the tired old "tax and spend" label on Democrats but it is the last 3 conservative republican administrations who have failed to balance budgets, preside over increased government growth and deficit spending.

Can you remember the last president that balanced the budget and banked a record surplus (a surplus for those who don't know is when a person or entity takes in more money than they spend thereby saving money for, oh I don't know, disasters and stuff like that)?

A new study using US Treasury Department figures claims that under George W. Bush's leadership, in less than five years, the US has borrowed more money than the previous 42 presidents did over 224 years combined.

All of the money borrowed since our country was founded equals 1.01 trillion dollars but Bush has managed to mortgage the future of our children to countries like China to the tune of 1.05 trillion dollars.

Fiscal conservatism is an oxymoron. Bush is just a regular moron. Our country, under just five years of conservative rule is bankrupt.

Tasers on Stun

Sometimes people with strong political opinions are pigeonholed as liberal or conservative. Most people are neither exclusively but it is an easy way to reject, out of hand, valid criticism.

I have many liberal views but also a few conservative ones. An excellent book on the subject is by Ted Rall called "Wake Up, You're a liberal". It is an excellent look at how most Americans are truly liberal in most of their political philosophies and it is the right wing which has, pretty successfully, convinced many Americans that they aren't.

Anyway, my point is I have some pretty (traditionally) conservative viewpoints and I would like bring some of them up.

I am pro-cop. I believe the majority of law enforcement officers do their jobs everyday in very tough situations and do so honestly and within the parameters of our laws and constitution. There are some bad cops just as there are some bad doctors, plumbers and teachers. Bad cops should be held accountable, fired, prosecuted, publicly humiliated and sued. There is no reason to tolerate illegal or abusive behavior from people with so much power over free citizens.

With that being said, there is quite a bit of controversy and some demonization of a tool beginning to be used by law enforcement. That tool is the taser.

An electroshock gun (sometimes referred to as a stun gun or taser), is a weapon used for subduing a person by administering a deliberate electric shock.

It is described as non-lethal (officially "less-lethal", meaning it is not intended to kill, and usually does not kill, but does on rare occasions). It is a weapon used by police officers and army personnel, although it is also used by non-army personnel for self-defense. It sends an electric current through a person at a level that is less than fatal but still severe enough to incapacitate them, and is not meant to do any permanent damage to a person, only to stun them tempor

Tasers are a tool used by law enforcement and demonized by some on the left. This is one subject on which I disagree with some on my political side.

I have watched many videos of people being tasered and all of the ones I have seen were legally justified uses of the taser. The subject being stunned is usually given repeated warnings, is actively resisting arrest and without the taser, the officer would be forced to either use hand to hand combat, pepper spray, baton or escalate up to lethal force.

Anytime a person resists the lawful orders of an officer, they force the escalation of force. The person being arrested dictates the amount of force used against them. All police departments have a use of force policy which dictates the type of force to be used and when to use it.

Here is a video of a person being tasered who absolutely brought it upon himself. He is abusive to the officer, intoxicated, physically resists and ignored repeated warnings by the officer. This person was also trying to return to his vehicle to leave the scene, putting others in danger or to retrieve a hidden weapon to use against the officer. This is an absolutely correct use of force by the officer.

The next video shows a bad officer. This female Las Vegas officer is holding a suspect at gunpoint while her partner handcuffs the suspect. This is a perfect example of poor training, incompetence and or plain stupidity. This officer reminds me a lot of someone I used to work with. A lot.

There have been 8 deaths alleged to have been caused by tasers but there have also been a significant reduction in officer involved shootings in cities that have adopted the taser as part of their less than lethal arsenal.

The most important thing for people to remember when dealing with a law enforcement officer is to comply, comply, comply. Yes sir. No sir. Mother may I. Defer to the officer even if you believe he or she is in the wrong. You can always fight it legally later.

A Brief Look at Conservative Overreaction

Conservatives are like banty roosters who can't wait to crow. They are easily tricked and fooled by anything that appears to be the rising sun(i.e. flashlights, matches, fireflies, WMD's etc.) and will crow their little fool heads off to bring attention to themselves and their cause.

Here are just two quick examples from my favorite right wing website, camedwards.com.

In the first, we see an overreaction to a ruling by the 9th circuit court of appeals in which the ruling by the court reads in part:

...there is no fundamental right of parents to be the exclusive provider of information regarding sexual matters to their children, either independent of their right to direct the upbringing and education of their children or encompassed by it. We also hold that parents have no due process or privacy right to override the determinations of public schools as to the information to which their children will be exposed while enrolled as students.

Now Cam Edwards, banty little rooster that he is immediately starts crowing:

Really? I, as a parent, have no right to be the exclusive provider of information regarding sexual matters?

I'm so angry by this decision I can't even think right now. I'll have more on this later.

I will say this. I'm not a subject. I'm a citizen.

The only problem, Cam did something conservatives love to accuse liberals of; he reacted with his heart and not his intellect. A later comment on the subject by a logical reader states:

Yes, Cam, no exclusive right. Just as there's no exclusive right to tell your kids about, oh, gun control, or chemistry, or Intelligent Design vs ... well, whatever it is it's supposed to be versus, since it's not actually in conflict with Darwin. What's more, there's no exclusive right for you to tell your kids about the multiplication tables, the War of 1812, or whether or not a split infinitive is good English.

Now, you do have the right to take your kids out of any school that insists on teaching that sex happens, the Second Amendment is an individual right, or that "to boldly go" is as good as "boldly to go". But you still don't have an exclusive right to be the only one to tell them about those things.

In other words, take a couple of deep breaths, walk around the block, and get over it.

Cam thinks about the subject instead of just reacting to it and then:

I guess you could argue that with compulsory education laws, parents lost the right to decide how to best educate their children.
I'm not as angry about this decision as I was when I first heard about it. A lot of attorneys say federal court was not the proper jurisdiction for this suit to begin with, and that legally speaking the 9th circuit probably ruled correctly.

Just like all good conservatives, he does not alter his original post to reflect the truth and only admits after being shown logical evidence that his original thesis is incorrect.

He does not change the post to reflect his change of heart though and a casual reader will come away with a ridiculous ruling by the "Ninth Circus" court which will allow teachers to demonstrate live sex acts to your kindergardener.

In the post immediately following this one, Cam, apparently not one to learn from past mistakes, reports:

A 5-year old boy in Tulsa was forced to strip down to his underwear for a day because he dared wear a Halloween costume to school.
A Tulsa parent is outraged over how her child was disciplined at school for wearing a costume.
Crystal Harris says her 5-year old son was forced to take off his costume, and go through the entire school day with only his underwear on.
The incident happened Monday at Walt Disney Elementary.
School officials acknowledge they have a policy that forbids costumes, and that's why the teacher did what she did.
They say they've have apologized to the family.
Harris says however the teacher should be disciplined for embarassing her son.

Disciplined? I'm thinking charged.

Setting the story straight

An erroneous report has been posted on its website by KJRH. The story says that a Tulsa Public Schools teacher “disciplined” a 5-year-old student by forcing him to take off his Halloween costume “and go through the entire school day with only his underwear on.”

The first serious error is that the child was being “disciplined.” Dress code infractions are handled through corrective action. In this specific instance the child was offered the opportunity to have his parents called to go home to change. He said he could take the costume off. He was specifically asked if he was wearing clothes on underneath the costume and he replied, “yes.” When he took off the costume he was wearing a tee-shirt that went below his waist and blue patterned pants that appeared to be jogging pants. He went through the school day without incident.

The implication from the KJRH story is that he was wearing brief or jockey-short-style underwear that should have been recognized as underwear. That is not the case. The pants in question closely resembled other childhood attire. Plus, the child wore a tee-shirt.

Disney Elementary School prohibits the wearing of Halloween costumes to school for two reasons: safety and classroom distraction. Costumes, many of which are long and flowing, are a hazard on the playground. Costumes in the classroom are a distraction from the positive learning atmosphere TPS schools maintain.

Of more than 800 students at Disney Elementary, this was the only child who showed up for classes on Monday wearing a costume. Parents and students had been informed earlier by posters of the prohibition on wearing costumes.

Senatator Harry Reid called a rare secret session for the Senate today to demand answers for the lies, deceptions and criminal acts perpetrated by the Bush administration in regards to the Iraq war and the CIA outing of Valerie Plame.

Senators Frist and Reid cried like little babies about not being informed in advance of the Democrat's decision to initiate Senate rule 21. The rule closed the senate and activated a private and secret meeting wherein the Republicans where forced to finally listen to the Democrat's demands for information. Here is a list of the various Democratic questions about Iraq and pre-war intelligence that have been ignored, rebuffed or forgotten about by Republicans.

This is the most deceptive and secretive administration in the history of this country and, until now, no one has had the backbone to call them on their manipulation and dishonesty. I am glad some Democratic senators finally grew a pair.

The Liehouse announced Monday that Judge Samuel Anthony Alito Jr.would be their new choice for the vacancy on the Supreme Court created by the retirement of Sandra Day O'Connor.

Alito, or Scalito as he has been called in reference to his judicial similarity to Justice Antony Scalia, according to many is an extreme conservative who has voted against abortion rights and has sided with machine gun owners in his previous decisions.

Reporter John Roberts got into a little hot water when he asked if Judge Alito was "sloppy seconds" since Bush had previously declared failed nominee Harriet Miers the best candidate for the job.

Goodbye Roe v Wade. Hello back alley abortions. But hey, machine guns for everyone!

One meme the right wing propagandists are hitting hard is that Valerie Plame was a blatant publicity whore who flashed her CIA badge to anyone who looked her way. She, they argue, outed herself.

Larry Stein (aka the Weasel) was lying about this topic today as he made some part time money filling in for DaX Davis on WKY AM 960 (the 26th rated radio station in Oklahoma).

I called Stein up and told him he was lying, he went on and on about how he "read somewhere" that all of Plames neighbors knew who she was and that she appeared in Vanity Fair.

The lie that Plame's covert CIA status was well known among her neighbors has been repeated by all the big liars in the right wing propaganda machine. Limbaugh lies about it daily, Coulter screams the lies, adam's apple bobbing up and down furiously and some closet case from National Review named Byron York lies about it in print. Local AM hosts will, no doubt, continue to lie about it because most of their audience is too stupid to check for themselves.

By the way Larry, she appeared in Vanity Fair over a year after Scooter and Novak outed her. There is no reason to hide once your cover has been blown.

Here is the truth:

On Monday, two FBI agents combed the northwest Washington neighborhood where Wilson and Plame live, showing their badges and questioning neighbors about whether they knew Plame worked for the CIA before her employer was revealed by Novak in July 2003.

Critics of the leak investigation have said it was an open secret that Plame worked for the CIA; if many people knew that she worked for the agency, it would make prosecution under the 1982 law protecting covert agents nearly impossible.

But neighbors contacted by The Times said they told the FBI agents that they had no idea of her agency life, and that they knew her as a mother of twins who worked as an energy consultant.

The agents "made it clear they were part of the Fitzgerald investigation, and they were basically tying up loose ends," said David Tillotson, a lawyer and neighbor who was among those interviewed Monday.

I would invite any conservative to provide proof that Valerie Plame was known to be a CIA agent before Scooter and Novak outed her. In fact, if anyone can, former CIA agent Larry Johnson is offering a $5000 cash reward.

I know $5000 is nothing for Limbaugh, Coulter and York but a cheap punk state employee like Larry Stein could surely use a quick $5K. Just backup your bullshit Stein, or STFU.

Breaking News - Big Oil is Screwing the Public

The major oil companies are raking in obscene profits because of the continual rape of the American public. Record quarterly profits of $10 b... b... b... Billion were rolled around in naked by officials from Exxon Mobil as they squeeled with delight.

The Bush administration, the ever vigiliant watchdog for the American public, promptly acted and immediately ruled out a capital gains type tax on the oil giants. They have also ruled out any type of serious investigation into collusion, price fixing and monopolization by the oil companies, some of their biggest political contributors and plain good ole boys.

Conservatives everywhere rejoice. The free market system works and the laws of supply and demand insure that huge coorporations get ever wealthier by gouging everyone who uses their product.

You would think with all those billions rolling in every week, the oil industries could build a few new refineries. One of the excuses they repeatedly give us right before shafting us like a dry hole is that refining capacity is down and, try as they might, they just can't produce anymore.

Conservatives have been telling us for decades that big business can control itself and will conduct itself in a responsible and fair manner; that it works best without government oversight. Big oil companies have taken advantage of the free reign given them by their bought and paid for government and redistributed hundreds of billions of dollars from the working men and women of America into their own bloated bank accounts.

The continued failure of the Republican controlled government to investigate or even show interest in this looting by big oil is yet another reason why we need to vote them out of power in 2006 and 2008. At least Democratic officials act like they care and occassionally do something in the publics best interest.

A valuable lesson to the youth: Loot food, shoes, or TV's - Get arrested or shot. Loot billions from hardworking Americans and you will be praised, famous and, most of all, rich.

Today, the 2000th soldier died in Iraq. 2000 men and women, sons and daughters, fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers; dead and the question remains...Why?

President Bush took us to war with the fear of weapons of mass destruction. We where in "grave danger" we were repeatedly told of being the victims of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons being used on us by a vile dictactor intent on our destruction.

It turns out that information was a lie. A carefully orchestrated, well rehearsed, crafted and polished bold faced lie. Even staunch warmongers and conservative supporters now admit there were no WMD's.

The rationale for war has become an ever changing kaleidoscope of public relations trial balloons:

We will be greeted as liberators with flowers and candy thrown at our feet: 2000 dead and 14,000+ wounded soldiers would disagree.

Iraqi oil will pay for the reconstruction: 200 billion American deficit dollars and counting.

Overthrowing a genocidal dictator (a person the former Bush and Reagan administrations supported with cash, chemicals and kind words).

Planting the seeds of Democracy in the Middle East: Although the Democracy the Bush administration will settle for today is far removed from the idyllic picture that was painted of a flourishing American style government on the Euphrates.

Conservative pundits decry the acknowledgement of this latest morbid figure. In an ongoing effort to blunt any valid criticism of this president, they attack the messenger and childishly try to counter the negative with ad hominem attacks and foisting non-existent traits on their enemies. "Liberals rejoice in the dead" is the meme of the right wing talk show hosts. The only people I have seen or heard rejoice in death are the same people who now cast apersions on me. I do not rejoice in death. I grieve for the lives lost. The sacrifices made. The vanity of an unnecessary war.

Conservatives, it would appear, prefer to forget our war dead and wounded. They are only useful as backdrops when running for election or trying desperately to regain some popularity. The magnetic ribbons that adorn their cars is the closest most conservatives get to recognizing the sacrifice made by others. The stark horrific reality is something they would prefer to ignore. Why should the worry their "beautiful minds" about something so barbaric, tragic and horrifying.

I will recognize the sacrifice made by my fellow soldiers. Each life lost is precious to me if, for no other reason, than that I was once one of them. I took the oath, wore the uniform and was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice if it was required.

All of our soldiers should be able to serve with the confidence that our leaders will not sacrifice them in vain. That every option will be explored, every avenue taken prior to war being waged.

This administration did not search for every alternative. They apparently did not seek any alternative. They decided on war and then justified that decision.

A young protestor was arrested in Pinnellas County Florida for holding a sign which read "Fuck Bush". Now I realize this is not the most articulate or intellectual way to oppose the Bush administration, but this is America and people still should have the right to say or hold signs, offensive or not.

The disturbing thing to me is that groups like Fred Phelps Westboro Baptist Church hold up and chant much more vile things and are offered protection from the police while this kid was arrested without warning.

The sign could have been confiscated or the officers could have asked the young man to put the sign away prior to an arrest being initiated.

I will be glad when we get patriotic God fearing conservatives out of our government, they are too dangerous to our constitutional rights.

It looks like the probe into the Valerie Plame outing may be the crack that breaks the Bush administration's corruption wide open.

Remember it was the Whitewater investigation that led to Bill Clinton's messy wet facial with the chubby intern, which in turn led to impeachment for lying under oath. Lying under oath, we were told by conservative radio talk show hosts, was about the worst thing a person could do, other than get a blowjob from a fat unpaid volunteer.

It is beginning to look like the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame may be the intro into much more devious acts by the Bush administration.

Evidence is building that the probe conducted by Patrick Fitzgerald, special prosecutor, has extended beyond the leaking of a covert CIA agent's name to include questioning about the administration's handling of pre-Iraq war intelligence.

According to the Democratic National Committee, a majority of the nine members of the White House Iraq Group have been questioned by Mr Fitzgerald. The team, which included senior national security officials, was created in August 2002 to “educate the public” about the risk posed by weapons of mass destruction on Iraq.

Mr Fitzgerald, who has been applauded for conducting a leak-free inquiry, has said little publicly about his 22-month probe, other than that it is about the “potential retaliation against a whistleblower”, Joseph Wilson. After Mr Wilson, a former ambassador, went public with doubts about the evidence that Iraq was developing nuclear weapons, the name of his wife, Valerie Plame, a CIA official, was leaked to reporters.

The prosecutor has given no indication whether he will charge anyone in the case. At the weekend Judith Miller, the New York Times reporter jailed for 85 days after refusing to testify, provided new details about the scope of Mr Fitzgerald's investigation. She was asked “repeatedly” how Lewis “Scooter” Libby, chief of staff to Vice-President Dick Cheney, “handled classified information”.

I have been kicked off many a conservative website. It is nothing to be ashamed of. I actually consider it a badge of honor in most circumstances.

There was the time I was kicked off Cam Edwards site for exposing his contributing poster as a liar. Accused of stalking and threatened with legal action, I was unceremoniously booted from being able to comment.

I understood.

I was kicked of Jim Traber's site at least 4 times (each time I was allowed to rejoin) for daring to criticize the mediocre baseball player turned mediocre talk show host.

I concurred.

Lately though, I have been booted for just politely disagreeing with conservatives or pointing out the failures of their beloved president.

It seems, much like the Bush administration, truth is no longer welcome on conservative websites. Dissention is not tolerated and opposing viewpoints are wiped away with the click of the administrators mouse.

The only person I every banned from my site used vulgar language...a lot, with no intelligence or humor.

There is a huge difference between conservatives and liberals. Liberals welcome debate and conflicting viewpoints, Conservatives demand loyalty oaths, ban dissention, create free speech zones and have opponents arrested.

I invite any conservative to come and comment, argue, debate and root for their team. I welcome the give and take. I will still make fun of you and eviscerate your political ideals but that is what makes this enjoyable.

I wonder why conservatives are afraid to do the same?

Pity poor Cam Edwards. He quit his job as Oklahoma City's number one morning right wing conservative AM talk show host to move to the liberal Northeast and host a high tech/low budget internet infomercial funded by the National Rifle Association.

The show started with a big on-air staff of about 4 people. Soon it became apparent this was not a money making proposition for the NRA, so they cut the staff again and again until only Cam remains.

His website, which once boasted hundreds of readers and dozens of daily commentators has dwindled to a pathetic shell of it's former self. Cam can still count on about 4 hardcore readers who faithfully repeat the right wing talking points; as good puppets should. His most infamous and tenacious poster is Kevin Posey, a driving school owner from Norman, Oklahoma, who can be relied on to relentlessly attack anyone thought to be liberal or deviate from the party line. Kevin has run off the more intelligent posters and almost single handedly destroyed Cam's site.

Cam has been reduced to begging for donations to redesign his failing site. The response has been less than overwhelming. The few readers who responded at all appeared to make fun of the request. Some even solicited donations from Cam. Apparently the site is not as valuable a commodity as it's namesake owner thought.

Never one to ignore the plight of the needy, I pitched Cam a quarter via Paypal. I hope my donation helps the site make it through the coming dark days for the psycophantic brainwashed diehards who still blindly support Bush and his failing administration and policies.

Conservative Radio Host - Save the Rich First

Neal Boortz, conservative radio talk show host said on his syndicated show that rich people should be saved first in the event of terror attacks or natural disasters. Poor people, in Boortz' opinion, are not worth saving. They are "undeducated", "can barely read", and "have children they can't afford".

Boortz is like the Fred Phelp's church members, extreme and vitriolic but speaks for many more people on the right who are afraid to voice their true opinions.

I have one question for Mr. Boortz: If you save the rich and let the poor perish, who is going to work in the factories for minimum wage? Who is going to cook and clean and pick up the trash of the elite? Who is going to buy the crap at Wal-Mart and keep this teetering economy going?

The gap between rich and poor is ever widening in this corporate dominated country and I know and work with many more poor people than I do rich. We may be getting closer and closer to a class revolution and the rich, while powerful by means of their money, are far outnumbered by the poor uneducated hardworking masses.

If their is a class war, my money is on the poor. I know all the conservative radio talk show hosts would be easy marks because of their poor physical condition, pale sensitive white skin and flabby asses.

The irony is that most of the local conservative talk show hosts make less than stellar incomes off of their shows. Some of them have resorted to begging to keep their alleged 100,000 hits per month websites functioning. Nearly all of them have to flack products or services to supplement their meager incomes.

My grandfather used to say, "If you want to live like a Republican, vote for a democrat". If you want to leave the poor to die in terrorist attacks and natural disasters, just keep voting republican. They are doing a bang up job already.

Now as many of you probably know, P.R. people are relentlessly upbeat and tell the side of the story the client (in this case the President) wants to convey to the consumer (in this case the American public). They do not have frank discussions nor do they answer questions without spin.

President Bush bravely held a Q&A with active duty soldiers in Iraq. The no holds barred give and take gave the soldiers a chance to interact with their president truthfully, openly and unrehearsed...Except it was a completely staged event with hand picked soldiers given explicit instructions on the questions they would be given, the order they would answer and the answers they would give.

Bush is touted by conservatives as a decisive take charge leader who is afraid of nothing-speaking his mind, polls, confrontation-yet he clearly is terrified of an open and free press or public who can speak to him without the filter of his handlers and screeners.

Try as he might to appear engaged and in control, new polls show Bush's popularity is receding faster than the flood waters in New Orleans. Latest polls show Bush at a pitiful 38% approval rating with 56% disapproval and a stunning 2% approval rating from African Americans (you read that right 2%).

No wonder he feels the need to stage events, screen questioners and keep the media at bay.

Bush's New Low

President Bush is polling at his lowest numbers ever. A Wall Street Journal?NBC News poll shows Bush's overall support has dropped to 39%. Even his nine photo ops to the Gulf Coast don't seem to be helping to pull his numbers out of the dumpster.

The poll shows that Bush’s approval rating stands at 39 percent, a new low for the president. In the last NBC/Wall Street Journal survey, which was released in mid-September, 40 percent approved of Bush’s job performance while 55 percent disapproved. In addition, just 28 percent believe the country is headed in the right direction, another all-time low in Bush’s presidency.

The poll also shows Americans aren't buying the bullshit form bugman Tom Delay. Only 29% believe the indictment against him is politically motivated with 55% saying they believe he did something illegal. Bill Frist is also thought to have committed an illegal act by a majority of Americans with his family's company stock sell off (dump) just before a negative earnings statement was released.

Meanwhile, 57 percent say Frist’s sale of stock in a company his family runs — just before the value of the stock declined — indicates potential illegal activity, compared with 28 percent who say the charge has little merit.

It looks like the 2006 elections may result in a turnover of power. 48 percent of Americas polled want to return to a democratically controlled congress as opposed to 39% who want to keep the fun house of corruption, cronyism and creationists we have in there now.

Fred Phelps and his inbred Westboro Baptist Church members who protest gay funerals, military funerals, Billy Graham and the Pope, and now fellow Baptist Churches are coming to Oklahoma City to make asses of themselves in front of the First Southern Baptist Church of Del City.

What have the members of SBC done to wrong God and Pastor Phelps?

One of it's members proposed legislation to make picketing a military funeral a crime.

For those of you unfamiliar with Fred, check out his Christian website, Godhatesfags.com.

From praising hurricanes Rita and Katrina, to celebrating soldier's deaths and the attacks on 9/11, Brother Phelps claims to be a representative of the one true God and preaches, what he claims are, Biblically accurate sermons.

Phelps represents the fringe of Christianity but some of the things he says are echoed by conservative christians in the mainstream.

While most conservatives didn't mind when Phelps was picketing gay funerals, when he started bring his vile sideshow to military funerals, they suddenly became justifiably outraged.

My conservative breathren and I don't agree on many things, but I think on this particular topic we have found some common ground...someone needs to kill this sick, sick fuck and the brainwashed cult members who do his bidding. I would at least like to see members of the First Baptist Church of Del City open a can of Old Testament, wrath of God style whoopass and baptise Fred and his followers with the fists of righteousness and maybe some two by fours of salvation.

Do you think excessive force was used?

It is obvious to me that, for at least one officer, there was. There is no need, and to the best of my knowledge no police department trains officers, to strike resisting suspects in the face. The proper technique is to strike a suspect in a large muscle mass like the thighs or upper arms. With three officers and one "good Samaritan" restraining the guy (the guy in the snappy khaki vest actually makes it harder to handcuff the suspect), they should have been able to take him down to the ground and handcuff him without punching him repeatedly in the face and head.

I think the officer who grabbed the guy with the laminated ID and threatened him should be suspended too.

By the way, I am not a bleeding heart "pigs are bad" guy, I normally support the police and give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to excessive force charges.

This time, they were wrong and should pay the price.

Update: The victim was a 64 year old retired elementary school teacher. He claims he was not intoxicated and, in fact, hasn't drunk alcohol in 25 years. The person threatened by the police officer and shoved up against the car was an AP producer responsible for documenting the incident. Three officers were arrested and suspended pending an investigation.

PETA versus KFC

A PETA protest was held outside an Oklahoma City KFC this week to protest the cruel ways chickens used by the company are raised and slaughtered.

The conservative media got hold of the story and, much like Protest Warrior, the Pro-War counter protest, Anti-Sheehan protestors, they decided to counter the PETA organization with their own petty and childish tactics. Right wingers thought it was funny eating chicken in front of them, callings them anti-Semitic and terrorists and encouraging some old rich bat to wear her fur coat to the protest.

I am not a vegetarian nor am I a member of PETA. I do, however, think that the animals we use for food in this country deserve to be raised in a humane environment and killed as painlessly and possible and should not be mutilated by machines, scalded alive, tortured by workers or kept in cages so small that the birds cannot move.

I had the opportunity to raise 8 chickens last year. Only 5 ultimately survived (lost 1 as a chick and 2 to predators). My chickens were like pets. They came when called, they were affectionate and surprisingly beautiful animals. They laid eggs which my family consumed (after getting used to the orange yolks which were indicative of the healthy lifestyle and good nutrition the chickens were receiving-something you will never see in mass produced large scale commercial farm eggs).

Healthier animals produce a healthier end product whether it be eggs, milk or meat. Family farmers know this and would never raise their animals in the conditions most of our livestock are now raised. Corporate farming has destroyed traditional methods and achieves it's main goal of producing the most product in the cheapest way possible by cramming animals together in unhealthy conditions, feeding them as cheaply as possible and loading them up with chemicals, anti-biotics and growth hormones.

The people who mock those PETA members seem to rejoice in the suffering of animals. The same actions that, if performed by an individual on a street, would warrant a call to the police, are laughed about by the right wing pro-torture(humans and animals) crowd.

KFC food is greasy, the pieces are small and the prices are high. Aside from the fact that they don't care enough about the animals that bring in tens of millions of dollars per year to their company, their crappy food is enough to make me boycott them.

If you can stomach it, watch the video that prompted the PETA protest. It was filmed at a KFC "Supplier of the Year" facility in Moorefield, West Virginia. It shows plant workers stomping, slamming chickens against floors and walls, twisting off their beaks, pulling off their heads and other depraved acts of cruelty.

The Bush administration facing declining levels of support for the (unnecessary) war in Iraq again played the skeered card by raising concerns about a terrorist attack on NY City subways.
The threat, given to the Mayor and city officials by federal authorities, cites specific threats to use bombs hidden in briefcases, backpacks and baby carriages.

While federal authorities downplayed the threat, after giving it to NY, the Mayor issued a public statement on the threats but withheld specific information.

Conservatives claim that the warning were posted by the Mayor of NYC but, in truth, they originated at the federal level.

The Bush administration has a very trackable history of using the Homeland Security "Danger Will Robinson" color chart to take pressure of themselves or to pump up fear and support when things aren't going their way. Unfortunately for Mr. Bush and Mr. Rove, the American people, dumb as they are, are finally catching on to their wolf shit. Increased colors make about as big an impression as his second term has.

The boy who cried wolf finally was eaten by the very thing that brought him much needed public attention and respect. Bush now faces a public that does not support him, his ideas, or his rapidly disintegrating war. He will use terror again, mark my words. Too bad it won't help him get back his mojo.

Tom Delay (Republi-con) - Indicted by a Texas Grand Jury for conspiracy to commit campaign finance violations. Weird looking guy too.

Bill Frist (Republi-con) - Under investigation by the Securities and Exchange commission for insider trading of his family's medical company stock (selling off in advance of poor earnings report).

Bill Bennett (Right Wing Whacko) - Although not literally a criminal, Bill Bennett, self confessed gambling addict and morals czar, made a statement on his conservative radio program that crime would go down if all black babies were aborted. Criminal? No. Criminally Stupid? Yes.

David Graves (Republinebriated) Macon, GA) - DUI. Mr. Graves tried to claim the equivalent of executive privilege to get out of his DUI charge. He claimed the alcohol was consumed at an official event and he was therefore immune from prosecution. Uhhh, no. In his defense, maybe he was drunk when he came up with this theory.

A state lawmaker cannot wiggle out of a drunken driving charge by claiming his drinking had been part of an official legislative function, a Cobb County judge ruled this morning.

Rep. David Graves (R-Macon) tried to use an obscure provision in the state constitution to argue that he should not have been arrested for DUI in February, during the 2005 session of the Georgia General Assembly.

The centuries-old provision holds that a lawmaker cannot be arrested during sessions of the General Assembly, legislative committee meetings or while they're in transit to a meeting or session. Exceptions are made for cases of "treason, felony or breach of the peace."

But at a hearing this morning, Cobb State Court Judge Irma B. Glover denied Graves' request to use his legislative immunity defense.

Well-known DUI attorney, William C. "Bubba" Head, who is representing Graves on this and another DUI from 2004 immediately filed a motion to appeal Glover's ruling to the Georgia Supreme Court.

I was just wondering, does any conservative ever take responsibility for their personal failures. I know Clinton denied it until the cum spattered dress showed up, but then he took responsibility and self flagellated before the American public on national TV. I have never seen any republican say, "Hey, I screwed up. I failed. I am sorry".

Update from the other hurricane

It doesn't seem like the mainstream media can let go of the Katrina damage, which was severe, long enough to cover the other hurricane that devasted southwest Louisiana. Little towns like Cameron, Creole, Moss Bluff, Holly Beach, Sweetlake, Grand Lake and many more were completely devastated by Rita.

All of my family evacuated before Rita hit. I finally spoke to my father and he said his house was damaged but repairable. My brother is in a similar situation. Others weren't so lucky. I have several family members in Cameron and Creole. All of their homes were completely destroyed. There is nothing left but slabs. My brother reports 99% of Creole and Cameron is gone. What few buildings survived, are barely standing with little more than part of roofs and framing members which are leaning precariously.

There are many people who evacuated here in Oklahoma. Many more are staying in hotels and motels across the country wondering when they will be let back in to see how their homes fared. They also wonder how long they can survive on limited funds.

My brother reports areas of Lake Charles are starting to get electricity back on. The smaller urban areas will wait weeks, months and possibly years to be restored.

Lifelong residents of the small coastal towns of Louisiana are wondering if rebuilding is feasible. Some have had their homes destroyed twice and many will not give another hurricane a chance to do it a third time.

It looks like not everyone in my family escapes hurricane Rita unscathed. The small coastal towns of Cameron and Creole Louisiana have been virtually decimated. My father's hometown, Cameron, was 80% leveled according to some reports.

“I would use the word destroyed,” Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore said of Cameron. “Cameron and Creole have been destroyed except for the courthouse, which was built on stilts on higher ground. Most of the houses and public buildings no longer exist or are even in the same location that they were.”

No one has been able to reach my father since Saturday, when he was going to try to return to his home, by boat if neccessary, to see what kind of damage was done. My Uncle and Aunt's house is probably gone in Grand Chenier as well as my Great Uncle's home in Cameron. I have many cousins and distant relatives living in that area as well.

I am still waiting to see hear from them or anyone that can tell us what has happened there.

Texas has been declared a disaster area but these small towns along the southwestern coast of Louisiana have been ignored by FEMA and the federal government. “This is the worst thing I’ve ever been through,” said Danny Hunter, 56. “I called FEMA this morning, and they said they couldn’t help us because this hasn’t been declared a disaster area.” “Texas is a disaster area!” Jenny Reading shouted. “I guess the president made sure of that, and everyone just forgot about us.”

We got to see two sides of a political and, some would say, moral debate, demonstrate in Washington, D.C. this weekend.

The first, a Peace rally sponsored by groups such as Answer Coalition, Moveon, Democratic Underground, Veterans for Peace, Goldstar Families for Peace and many others was a resounding success. Well over the original estimate of 100,000 activists showed up in D.C. to protest the war and support the troops return. The streets were packed with people concerned about the deteriorating situating in Iraq that has claimed the lives of over 1900 U.S. troops to date and wounded over 14,000. Protestors ranged from family members of soldiers serving in Iraq, Catholic Nuns, senior citizens, veterans, college students, families and children and the occasional old school hippy.

A counter protest was planned by members of Free Republic, Protest Warrior and other pro-war/anti-enlisting groups for the next day.

"We are preparing for as many as 20,000 people, just to be on the safe side," said Kristinn Taylor, a leader of FreeRepublic.com, one of the sponsors. "People have been fired up over the past month, especially military family members, and they want to be heard."

About a hundred people showed up.

100,000 to 100. Protests still belong to the "unwashed hippies", as one right wing moron called the Peace marchers.

I wanted to go to the peace rally in OKC today, but I had to go pick up some refugees from Louisiana.

I know many conservatives wanted to go and mock the protestors or take the worst possible picture of the most ridiculously dressed person and portray all of the concerned people who are against this stupid war the same way. Apparently in DC there are several strange things happening that are preventing some people from getting to the protests.

Don't believe me though, Cam Edwards, chickenhawk and right wing internet webcaster of the NRA radio show, tried to go and make fun of the protestors but he found he could not make it because "routine maintenance" was being performed on the trains and the delays were so great he, and many others, just went home.

Train delays are also mentioned at Democratic Underground where the tin hats are coming on in full force.

The old saying goes, "Just because I am paranoid doesn't meant they aren't out to get me." It does seem strange that they would do "routine maintenance" on a day when tens of thousands of people would be trying to utilize the system.

The Evacuation of Lake Charles

My brother and his family arrived in Oklahoma last night, Ada to be exact. It took them over 35 hours to make the trip that normally takes 10-11. They said the evacuation routes were nightmares of abandoned cars, scared people and the occassional verbal fight over gas or cutting into traffic.

My older brother and I went to guide them from Ada to OKC, where some will stay until they find out the extent of damage to their homes. They are all from the Lake Charles area, some closer to Cameron Parish.

Everyone survived the trip, now we just have to find out what it will take to get them home safely and what they will have to do once they get there.

My Brother - A Firsthand Account of the Failures of FEMA

Just got off the phone with my brother who is a medical supervisor at a hospital in the southern coastal area of Louisiana. He sounded tired and told me he has been getting an average of 2 -3 hours of sleep since August 28 (the day Katrina hit).

He just evacuated his entire hospital in preparation for Rita and is standing by awaiting final evacuation orders to shut down the only hospital in a 50 mile radius of where he lives.

This is literally the first time I have spoken to him since Katrina. He told me several stories about what has happened and is happening there now.

A little background on my brother. He was part of a task force that worked with the state OEP (Office of Emergency Preparedness) to develop emergency plans for terrorist attacks and natural disasters. He adamantly stands by the plans that were made saying what that team developed was a good system to handle these types of disasters.

I asked him where they system failed. He said that from the city level on up to the federal level was supposed to rely on each other to help but as soon as the actual disaster hit, there was an every man or organization for itself mentality that immediately took over.

FEMA took over the relief operations on day 3 and he was relieved when it happened. He thought that help would be forthcoming. His hospital received 43 evacuees from New Orleans and immediately began tending to their needs. The evacuees, were predominantly elderly but not all poor. He said there were many professionals in the group.

He asked one elderly lady why she didn't leave and she told him she had been using public transportation for 50 years, she had never owned a car, and the television news said busses would be available to transport people who needed it, out of New Orleans. She packed and waited but no bus ever came.

As they used their medicinal supplies to treat these additional patients, representatives of FEMA came to his hospital and went through the procedures to provide them with more supplies and equipment. As they left they assured him, help was on the way. Nothing came. A few days later the scene was repeated with different reps from FEMA and again he was told help was coming. Nothing came. He said they have been visited ten times by FEMA officials and as of today, 20 days later, not one piece of equipment, medical supply, food item or money has filtered down to their hospital.

He got a call today from a yet another FEMA official and told him they would be sending supplies. He told them to send them to another hospital because he had evacuated the patients out of the path of Rita.

Red Cross visited his hospital 3 times and assured him they where on the case. Red Cross performed better than FEMA, they sent 43 $20 vouchers for clothes at a Goodwill store, I kid you not, in New Orleans. Only good at that location, only valid for three weeks. My brother is saving one of those as a memento.

He told me of the call for aluminum flat hull boats immediately after the levees in New Orleans broke and 500 civilians responding to the call only to be turned away by FEMA, A group of doctors and nurses showing up in his city with a tractor trailer full of medical supplies and food ready to relieve the overworked professionals treating the evacuees were unceremoniously turned away by the Red Cross and told they did not accept any contributions except money and authorized corporate donations. They were not needed said the Red Cross as my brother and his staff worked up to 50 hours straight until they nearly collapsed from exhaustion.

There are many more stories to tell, he said and when he had more time he would "write a book".

Do you have faith the government will be able to handle a major terrorist attack or another natural disaster I asked him. He paused a moment and simply said, "No".

Well, it is official, Bush is back on the bottle. The same investigative paper that brought out the truth about Gary Hart and Bill Clinton's romantic dalliances outside the covenant of marriage has broken the silence about President Bush's losing battle with the bottle.

Harry Bush???

Some people on both sides of the political aisle have decided that the Harry Potter series is an analogy of the current political situation in America. The conservatives, at least the ones who aren't askeered to read the satanic series, claim that Harry represents Bush and the Death Eaters are the terrorists. Liberals claim that the Bush regime is represented by the Death Eaters and Harry represents the American public. Being a liberal and Harry Potter fan, I really can't see Bush as Harry. For one thing, Harry can read and is interested in learning. Although Harry is wealthy (inheritance from his parents) and gets into the premiere school of witchcraft and wizardry based on his family name, I still can't buy Harry as Bush or vice versa.

After reading the last book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I have come to a few conclusions, not politically motivated.

This is my take on what will happen in the final book.

1. Dumbledore is not dead. Snape cast a nonverbal spell of protection on him while he was verbally flinging him from the tower.

2. Snape is truly a good guy who will die fighting valiantly for the Order of the Phoenix. Snape could have easily killed or captured Harry in the final fight scene. He did not. In fact he merely blocked Harry's spells and did nothing to counter them. Snape was furious when Harry called him a coward and the reason is that Snape knows he is risking his life, limb and soul to act as a double (or is it triple) agent for the Order. The oath he took to protect Draco does nothing to keep him from working for the Order. I believe he took a similar oath to Dumbledore which will be revealed in the final book.

3. Neville Longbottom will turn out to be a more important character than we have been lead to believe. He may even be the chosen one.

4. Sirius Black will also come back from the dead or suspended animation in the final chapter.

That is all for now. I guess we will have to wait a year or so to find out if I am right. I have a pretty good record at this kind of thing. Just read my October 2004 prediction called, "Why Kerry will win in November".

Well, like a lot of verbiage that spewed out of the Bush administration, it has turned out to be a lie.

Recently released documents from the 9/11 commission shows that as early as 1995, it was known by U.S. agencies that this was a real threat and the hijacked planes were predicted used against American landmarks.

These documents were previously released before the 2004 election, but this little damning part was redacted (blacked out). I wonder why?

The right wing nosedive in America continues. Mirroring George W. Bush's calamitous fall from popularity to pariah, right wing radio, perhaps emulating their naked emperor, is less popular every rating period.

MaybeJim Traber, whose mediocrity nearly destroyed the Cardinals in his one lame season with them, is responsible for WKY's plunge in the ratings. It is probably the American public's weariness of obvious lies and propaganda propping up W's miserable failure of a presidency.

Whatever the cause, there is no doubt that WKY and it's sycophantic right wing personalities are only slightly more popular than 3 other stations I have never heard of or can find on my dial.

I tried to post on Jim Traber's website but my post was deleted and I was banned (again). So, I am forced to congratulate the bunch of losers over at WKY here on my site (I know they all come here like closeted gay men to the local glory hole).

WKY, ranked 21 out of 24 stations in Oklahoma City. I think some Jr. High morning announcements have more listeners. Keep up the good work guys, at this rate, you will be replaced by a Spanish music station in a few months.

Bush administration so incompetent, world takes pity on America

A growing list of countries, many slandered and ridiculed by this administration and it's supporters, are lining up to give money, supplies and aid to the stricken Gulf Coast devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Many countries and organizations reviled by the right wing conservatives in this country are offering help nonetheless.

French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said France would send its entire stock of emergency supplies, including tents, blankets, cooking equipment and camp-beds, prepositioned on the French Caribbean island of Martinique for just such an eventuality. Douste-Blazy said one shipment would leave from Fort-de-France within 24 hours and another within 48 hours.

Germany shipped 25 tonnes of food aid to the flood-stricken regions over the weekend, the defence ministry said Sunday.

"The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Program, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the High Commissioner for Refugees are ready to provide emergency staff and a wide variety of relief supplies as and when necessary," the spokesman said a statement.

Canada said Sunday it was sending thousands of camp-beds, blankets and medical supplies after a request from Washington for help.

Cuba and Venezuela, two Latin American countries often singled out for criticism by administration of US President George W. Bush, were among the first to offer humanitarian assistance

I am grateful that these and many other countries do not hold the American people responsible for the assinine comments and bigotry of this administration and it's supporters.

We have been abandoned by our own country. Hurricane Katrina will go down in history as one of the worst storms ever to hit an American coast, but the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina will go down as one of the worst abandonments of Americans on American soil ever in U.S. history.

I am personally asking our bipartisan congressional delegation here in Louisiana to immediately begin congressional hearings to find out just what happened here. Why did it happen? Who needs to be fired? And believe me they need to be fired right away because we still have weeks to go in this tragedy. We have months to go. We have years to go.

And whoever’s on the top of this totem pole, that totem pole needs to be chainsawed off and we need to start with some new leadership. It’s not just Katrina that caused all these deaths in New Orleans here. Bureaucracy has committed murder here in the greater New Orleans area and bureaucracy has to stand trial before Congress now.

It’s so obvious. FEMA needs more congressional funding, it needs more presidential support. It needs to be a cabinet level director. It needs to be an independent agency that will be able to fulfill its mission to work in partnership with state and local governments around America.

FEMA needs to be empowered to do the things it was created to do. It needs to come somewhere like New Orleans with all of its force immediately -- without red tape, without bureaucracy. Act immediately with common sense and leadership and save lives. Forget about the property, we can rebuild the property. It’s got to be able to come in and save lives. We need strong leadership at the top of America right now in order to accomplish this into reconstructing FEMA.

Tim Russert: Shouldn’t the mayor of New Orleans and the governor bear some responsibility? Couldn’t they have been much more forceful, much more effective and much more organized about evacuating the area?

Broussard: Sir, they were told, like me, every single day “The cavalry’s coming.” On a federal level, “the cavalry’s coming (3x) I have just begun to hear the hoofs of the cavalry. The cavalry is still not here yet, but I’ve begun to hear the hoofs and we’re almost a week out. Let me just give you three quick examples. We had Walmart deliver three trucks of water, trailer trucks of water. FEMA turned them back. They said we didn’t need them. This was a week ago.

FEMA. We had a thousand gallons of diesel fuel on a coast guard vessel docked in my parish. The Coast Guard said “come get the fuel right away.” When we got there with out trucks, they got a word. “FEMA said don’t give you the fuel.”

Yesterday. Yesterday! FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency communication lines. Cut em without notice. Our Sheriff, Harry Lee, goes back in. He reconnects the line and he posts armed guards on our line. And he says, “No one’s getting near these lines.” Sheriff Harry Lee says if America … American government would have responded like Walmart has responded we wouldn’t be in this crisis. But I want to thank Governor Blanco for all she’s done and all the leadership. She sent in the National Guard. I just repaired a breach on my side of the 17th street canal, that the secretary didn’t foresee. A three hundred foot breach. I just completed it yesterday, with convoys of National guards and local parish workers and levy board people. It took us 2 and half days, working 24/7.

Russert tries to interrupt.

Broussard: I just closed it. I’m telling you. Most importantly, I want to thank my public employees {Russert tries to speak again) that have worked 24/7, that burn out – the doctors, the nurses… I want to give you one last story and I’ll shut up and let you tell me whatever you want to tell me.

The guy who runs this building that I’m in , emergency management, he’s responsible for everything. His mother was trapped {Broussard starts to cry.} in St Bernard nursing home and every day she called him and said, “Are you coming, son?” “Is somebody coming?” And he said, “yeah Mama, somebody’s coming to get you. Somebody’s coming to get you on Tuesday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Wednesday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Thursday. Somebody’s coming to get you on Friday. And she drowned on Friday night. She drowned on Friday night.”

Russert interrupts: "Mr. President…"

Broussard: “Nobody’s coming to get us. Nobody’s coming to get us. The Secretary’s promised. Everybody’s promised. They’ve had press conferences. I’m.. I’m sick of the press conferences. For God’s sake, shut up and send us somebody!” {deep sobs}

Russert interrupts again, in a softer tone: Take a pause, Mr. President. While you gather yourself. These are very emotional times. I understand. Let me go to governor Haley Barber of Mississippi.

Hurricane Katrina has proven to me beyond any doubt that the diehard Bush supporters, the right wing commentators, the freepers and the conservatives are without any human compassion and are able to continually spew forth the vomitous of their political ideology in the face of human tragedy.

From members of Free Republic saying we built the public housing in New Orleans too well because it survived the hurricanes, right wing websites advocating burning New Orleans to the ground, the speaker of the house, Dennis Hastert, stating that we should not bulldoze the devasted city and not waste money rebuilding it, to the racist lies and rumors surrounding looting, shooting and rapes to the slow response and refusal of help from this right wing administration, it has never been more clear how these "compassionate" people feel about the poor, the sick and minorities.

Mocking the victims of this tragedy for staying in their homes, has become so commonplace among the right wing media and commentators, even FEMA's director blamed the victims, that it is now an accepted belief among many Americans that these people deserved or somehow earned their fate. I wonder if the same mentality would have been tolerated when talking about the victims of 9/11. After all, they knew that the Trade Towers were a target of terrorist, hell it had been hit before, so, according to the right wing mentality, the victims must have deserved their fate for putting themselves into that precarious position.

The commentators on the ground are begging and pleading with the government to send help and relief supplies 5 DAYS AFTER THE HURRICANE HIT GROUND (even FOX News commentators Sheppard Smith and Geraldo gave up the right wing spin and told the truth). Would it have been acceptable to leave the trapped and suffering 5 days in New York City? Absolutely not, yet somehow the rationalizations for this miserable failure of a emergency response are accepted by the right wing bushbots and repeated ad nauseum. It is clear that if you are poor and black in the world of compassionate conservatism you are not as important as wealthy white business men and women.

The tales of rampant anarchy on the streets of New Orleans are proving to be rumors and repeated urban myths more than factual accounts. Tales of people helping each other and maintaining their compusure for days and days without adequate food, water and medical treatment are now coming out. The right wing echo chamber made much ado about helicopters being shot at but that is apparently, a lie. The criminalization of the people in New Orleans made it easier to justify ignoring them and letting them die. This policy of psych warfare has served this administration well in Iraq, making monsters out of those you wish to destroy and it is a well known and often used ploy in making war, but to use the same techniques against civilian victims of a natural disaster is detestible.

Blame the poor, slander the victims, make excuses, take no responsibility-this is the legacy of this administration and this political ideaology. History will judge this period in American history and judge it harshly. As should we, the people.

In the meantime, donate what you can to the suffering people of the Gulf Coast. They are being ignored by their leaders and blamed by the right wing whackos but I am sure they won't be ignored by the American people and the truly compassionate.

In a scene reminescent of another September, 4 years ago, our beloved President camped out in his fake ranch for the entire month of August while a tragedy loomed. There is nothing Mr. Bush could have done to prevent a hurricane but his obvious disconect with the impending disaster is unforgiveable.

While Bush road his bike and cleared brush, a national disaster was in the beginning stages. As Hurricane Katrina built up power in the Gulf of Mexico, Bush idled away the last few days of his five week vacation doing nothing to prepare for what would become the largest civilian relief effort in the history of our country.

As with 9/11, Bush used his reactive style to declare that nothing could be done prior to the tragedy and everything would be done now that it had already taken place. Too little, too late.

What Bush forget to mention, or outright lied about, was what could have been done in the days, weeks and months prior to Katrina making landfall that would have made the dire situation faced by thousands of Gulf Port refugees much better managed and less dangerous today.

Here is a timeline of actions this administration took (or failed to take) which have increased the severity of this disaster.

The fact that 3 days after Katrina's winds died down there is still little, if anything, under control in New Orleans and people are dying on an hourly basis is a shocking and unforgiveable act of negligence by this administration. How can the American people have any confidence that this president and his administration could possible handle a terrorist attack on a grand scale when they are failing so horribly at handling a natural disaster they knew was coming a week before it hit?

Chaos rules in New Orleans tonight because people have become angry and hostile after waiting for days for relief and basic human needs. "This is a national disgrace," said Terry Ebbert, head of New Orleans' emergency operations. "FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control," Ebbert said. "We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims but we can't bail out the city of New Orleans."

Tens of thousands of National Guard troops are not available in the hurricane stricken areas because they are deployed in Iraq for the forseeable future. Money slashed from FEMA and Civil Engineering projects in the Gulf Coast have also added to the problems, while hundreds of BILLIONS were spent willy nilly rebuilding Iraq.

As reports of rapes, murders, looting and civilian unrest increase, Bush's response has been to give more "can do" speeches. Unfortunately for the people of New Orleans, Biloxi and the other hard hit areas, happy thoughts aren't feeding their children, addressing their medical needs, providing safety or even flushing their toilets.

The Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, put out a plea for help: “This is a desperate SOS. Right now we are out of resources at the convention center and don’t anticipate enough buses. We need buses. Currently the convention center is unsanitary and unsafe and we’re running out of supplies". This plea comes 3 days after the hurricane struck.

I have been to New Orleans twice in my life. Many members of my family live less than 3 hours away. I have a good friend who I have not been able to contact who lives there with his wife and two children. I fear that the New Orleans from my memory is gone forever but life goes on for Mr. Bush and his administration. Condi Rice, US Secretary of State, was shopping for shoes and enjoying the Broadway musical "Spamalot", while tens of thousands of Americans faced life threatening situations on the Gulf Coast.

Mr. Bush's latest affront to reality is his statement that "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees," ranks up there with his previous statement, "I don't think anyone foresaw people using planes as missiles". The only problem is, people did foresee and anticipate both things happening but his administration, once again, chose to ignore the warnings or worse acknowledge the problems and then cut funding that would have helped.

Another typical right wing radio talkshow host (a la Hannity, Rush , Savage, Beck, etc. ad nauseum), Cam never found the time to serve and even though he is within the age for volunteering, he is still too much of a selfish coward to join up for the war for which he beat the drums so vigorously. His sign says, "Land of the Free Because of the Brave". He should add a piece to the bottom which says, "Not that I would know anything about that personally".

Majority Rules

For a few years now, we have heard from the right wing conservatives that this is a democracy ruled by the majority. America, love it or leave it. Bush was supported by a majority therefore his word, his wants, his rules applied. He could do as he wished with all of his earned "political capital". Anyone who disagreed with the majority was labeled a traitor, America-hater, sore loser or, the old right wing standby, a communist.

Flash forward-present day...

Depending on which poll you look at, George W. Bush ranks anywhere from failure to miserable failure on the job he is doing. The war in Iraq, as it spirals further out of control, is now thought by the majority of Americans to be a mess not worth our investment of money and troops (1800+ of whom have been killed so far). More information comes out weakly from our whipped or complicit media indicting the president for misleading us into an unnecessary war, lying about WMD, spending us into oblivion, exposing secrets for political payback, grafting our hard earned tax dollars to corporate donors and unleashing the character attack dogs on anyone who criticizes these crimes.

While Baghdad burns, Bush rides his bike on yet another 5 week long vacation; ignoring the grieving mothers and fathers of dead soldiers camped outside his political dude ranch at his peril.

The American public appears to be waking from our right wing induced haze of terrorism inspired patriotic fear and fervor. The emperor is suddenly looking awfully naked even as he vainly tries to wrap our flag around himself and make it work just one more time.

So, following the might makes right logic of the conservatives, the majority now is against this war, these policies, this leader. The will of the people can not be ignored. The majority wants some answers and some action and by God, we are entitled to it by way of our sheer numbers.

Listen up conservatives, you are now a minority and in keeping with your treatment of minorities, you had better shape up or ship out. You control all three branches of government and, like King Midas in reverse, you have turned everything you touched into turmoil, waste and destruction.

Disagree with the majority at your own risk. Go against the American people and you prove that you hate us because of our freedom...

...and you know what happened to the last group of political leaders who did that.

Bus canceled; local residents will drive to Crawford for rally

A caravan of a few vehicles, rather than a chartered bus, will take Brown County residents to a pro-Bush rally in Crawford on Saturday, Brown County Veterans Services Officer Billy Murphey said.

Murphey said Thursday that he had decided to cancel the bus because there weren't enough riders to help defray the $1,300 charter fee. Riders would have been asked to donate $25 each toward the cost.

Only 7 people in Texas willing to cough up the bucks to ride a bus and support Bush. Sounds about right.

SWEETWATER (AP) — Two Tennessee National Guard soldiers were killed Monday in Iraq, their family members said Tuesday.

Spc. Joseph "Joey" Hunt, 27, of Sweetwater, and Sgt. Victoir P. Lieurance, 34, of Seymour, were members of the 278th Regimental Combat Team. Two other members of the unit on the same combat patrol were injured Monday afternoon southwest of Samarra when an improvised explosive device exploded near their vehicle, ejecting at least one soldier.

Andre Lieurance referred to Cindy Sheehan, the California mother of a slain soldier, who recently camped out in front of President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, in opposition to the war.

"She didn't speak for me. Now she does," the father told The Knoxville News Sentinel on Tuesday. "I'm with her. I believe we were lied to. (My son) did what he was supposed to. Bush didn't."

I am sorry for your loss Mr. Lieurance. I am also sorry for the way right wing republicans will call you a traitor and coward for what you just said.

The 2007-09 rotation he is planning would go beyond Bush's term in office, which ends in January 2009.

There is no way we will be in Iraq for 4 more years. I have been there and the people on the ground told me that we were building facilities for the military to last 20-30 years.

20-30 more years at 100 billion per year, thousands more soldiers lives and tens of thousands more limbs, eyes, burns and other ghastly mutilations (don't forget the thousands and thousands of "liberated" dead Iraqi civilians).

I support Cindy Sheehan's right to protest freely and ask the President hard questions about the war. Unlike my right wing nutjob counterparts, I don't believe that peacefully protesting, exercising the right to assemble and the right to free speech makes one a traitor, treasonous, a coward, crazy or any of the other horrible things they have called Mrs. Sheehan. On the contrary, I believe exercising these rights is a patriotic and neccessary thing to do. Sometimes even heroic.

Tonight all across this great country, citizens gathered to protest this war, pray for the troops and support Mrs. Sheehan. I am thankful we are still able to do that and it is my sincere hope the American people (who now oppose this war by a large percentage) get some answers they deserve from an administration that has ducked, lied and obfuscated for far too long.

Here is what Bush needs to tell Cindy Sheehan according to one editorialist. I am afraid he will have to let others hypothesize what he would say because he is too busy "getting on with my life" and "moving on".

What is up with the flag backdrop for Bush's speech? The conspiracy theorists are all abuzz about subliminable messages and propaganda. There is something weird about the backdrop and it is not above Rove to try to implant subtle images like he did with the crucifix podium during the RNC.

Notice the way the flag is folded it hides 4 of the thirteen stripes. I personally don't believe subliminal imagery works because a portion of America can't see blatant truth about Bush and his lies when it is right in their face so how the hell are they going to pick up the 9/11 message hidden in the flags.

What a difference a year and a half fighting in an quagmire makes.

President Bush attempted to make another rah rah patriotic speech to a favorable crowd, selecting Fort Bragg and 700 U.S. soldiers to help sell his war to a rapidly turning American Public.

Unfortunately for Bush and his propoganda team, no one told the soldiers.

The repetitive catch phrase laden speech did nothing to clear up the floundering "war President's" message nor did it give any justification for a war that has cost the lives of over 1750 of his hand selected audience's compatriots.

The silence of the crowd was deafening, especially when compared to Bush's previous speeches to the military.

Let's look at Bush's famous Thanksgiving Day speech in Iraq a short year and a half ago.

As Bremer prepared to read a presidential proclamation to the troops, he said, "Let's see if we've got anybody more senior here who can read the president's Thanksgiving speech. Is there anybody back there who's more senior than I?"

Bush then emerged, misty-eyed and wearing a U.S. Army exercise jacket, to a roaring ovation.

The shocked and elated soldiers jumped to their feet, pumped their fists in the air, roared with delight, and grabbed their cameras to snap photographs.

The Thanksgiving Day speech (or the Turkey in Tikrit as I like to call it) was interrupted over 13 times by raucus applause, cheering and hooahs. Bush could barely get through a paragraph without having to stop for the adoring applause of the troops. The speech, which was only ten paragraphs long took twice as long to give because of the constant interruptions (complete text of speech and applause interruptions).

Cut to present day. The White House team had alotted 40 minutes for Tuesday's 28 minute speech to accomodate all the expected cheering and clapping from the loyal troops. The President entered to dead silence. He proceeded to give his speech and the only applause came at the end when "over exuberrant" Bush staffers initiated a short burst of polite applause. The speech ran 28 minutes.

Spin control began immediately with claims that the soldiers had been told not to applaud. Later clarification proved that the soldiers had been told not to "carry on", a big difference between acting too boisteriously and clapping. There is nothing to indicate that this administration has ever discouraged any crowd from cheering this President and if this was such a somber speech it could have, and should have been delivered from the oval office.

It appears that Bush has lost one of his most ardent support systems, the military and for a "war president" that loss is devastating.

Man, it takes a while to recover from a trip to Iraq. I think I have recovered now so I will start my blog back up. I have a lot of stuff to talk about and many current events to comment on. I will work on my story of being in Iraq and post some photos of my experience there.

Praise the Lord and Pass the Ballot (Vote Republican or Go to Hell!)

Recently, I was discussing the right wing whoring of religion with a conservative talk show host. He claimed that the right wing did not have the monopoly on using religion. He also stated that the use of religion for political reasons made him sad. It doesn't make me sad, it makes me angry.

A conservative website posted a story about the same time implying that a left wing liberal church in California called the police on three marines and had them kicked out of the church. A shocking story if you read just the right wing propogandist version.

Being a conservative fighter though, I checked a little deeper and discovered to my complete expectation, that a large part of the story had been left out.

The marines in question were not in uniform during the service. There were three of them with shaved heads dressed in street clothes. They stood up during the service, walked to the front of the church, turned to face the congregation, stared at them said nothing and then walked out. They came back the following week and were talking during the service disrupting other parishioners enjoyment of the sermon. Parishioners of the Catholic Church were mainly spanish speaking and they were rightly, a little freaked out by this unusual behavior as would any rich republican member of any mall sized church anywhere in America.

The implication was this; left wing California whackos kick out God fearing Marines because they don't like the military. A much more politically useful story than the truth.

Now, kicking people out of church for their job or political affiliation is completely wrong...right conservatives. So I wonder how many of you will be outraged at the behavior of Pastor Chan Chandler of the East Waynesville Baptish Church in North Carolina who excommunicated 9 members of the church for being Democrats? Pastor Chandler stated that anyone who supported John Kerry during the election or who did not vote for George Bush was not a Christian. When nine members refused to change their political affiliation, the right reverend Chandler, kicked them out. To their credit, 40 additional members left the church in protest.

An isolated incident? An abhorrent example of a man of faith going over the line? Or is this a new wave the right wing politicalization of religion. Surely, this can't be condoned or encouraged by our leaders in Washington, right?

Wrong! This is just the first example of an organized political movement to claim religion as a political prize. "You are either with us or against us," is not just a slogan in the "war on terror". It is now a talking point pushed forward regarding religion. But don't believe me; let's hear from the vice president:

If we don't do anything at all, if we just stay where a lot of people have said we ought to stay -- there are a number of members of Congress of the other faith who have said that we don't need to do anything -- well, if you don't do anything, the net result will be, for somebody today, say, in their 30s, by the time they get to retirement age, their benefit levels are going to be cut some 26 percent or 27 percent. Automatic, that's what will happen with today's existing law.

But it wasn't just Ol' Dick who presented this new meme. Let's look at the biting inciteful questions from two plants, uh I mean, completely random American patriots in the audience:

Q Mr. Vice President, thank you for coming to Georgia, and thank you and the President for your leadership in the war on terror. Millions of Americans appreciate that.

My question is, I watched the press conference the other night with the President, and it seems like when the two of you come up with serious ideas that those from the other faith, in the other party, all they do is demonize and, in many cases, just lie and try to divide the older generation, our grandparents from us, those in our 30s.

...and the brilliant:

Q Good morning, Vice President Cheney. I'd like to ask a question. This morning you've really delineated very well a lot of points in the program and what you and the President want to do. Could you delineate for us, because I think we have a little bit of an easy audience this morning on convincing us of this program -- could you delineate out a few other points from the other side, or the other faith, differences maybe in what you're saying this morning, and maybe what they're saying or not saying?

Here is the text of the entire propoganda filled circle jerk.

How much longer until we "of the other faith" are forced to sew the letter "D" onto our clothing?

Scary times my friends. Scary times.

As I sit here trying to decide what to write, I am overwhelmed by the sheer bulk of hypocrisy, arrogance and outright thuggery manufactured and distributed by the right wing politicians and their media whores since I have been gone.

Four months is not that long but somehow the Republican conservatives managed to pile on abuse after scandal and still not be held accountable by the American public, media or constitutional laws of this land.

Whether it is Tom Delay's many brushes with illegality and corruption or the tacit whoring of religion and the pious right for political purposes; the final conclusion that there were never any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq or the shocking (except to anyone with an IQ above 80) revelation that President Bush planned to attack Iraq all along.

There is an old saying that we get the government we deserve. Thanks to the gullible, faux patriots who were so afraid of the "evil doers" and so selfish as to prefer a tiny tax cut and huge deficits to fiscal responsibility and sacrifice we have this mess. A government spending our future away, record deficits, record gas prices, record bankruptcies, over 1500 soldiers dead in an unethical war, terrorist attacks spiking worldwide and so much more that my overwhelmed brain is locking up with anger and disgust.

The tide may turn but not before many more will be pulled down by the waves of conservative fanatacism. Like the king who tried to stop the tides, Bush sits arrogantly on the beach and commands the inevitable to cease; never realizing his lies, deciept and greed are combining to create a force of nature which even his spin doctors and P.R. whores can't paint over or brush under.

The end is nigh! Though for who I can no longer say with certainty. The American public will either see through the charade of conservative lies and manipulation and realize that this philosophy of total unquestioned control is completely contrary to what our constitutional forefathers had in mind or we will keep the status quo and be sucked down into the ever deepening sludge of political corruption.

The choice is ours, for a while longer.

Conservative Fighter - Back From Iraq

Hello America.

I am once again on my native soil and re-charged to fight the good fight against the conservative machine set to destroy our freedoms and erode our rights.

Four months in war torn Iraq tends to changes ones perspective on a few things.

After spending time away from my family, friends and the things I previously took for granted, I am much more enamored with my home, much more grateful for my country and much less likely to take any shit from those who would despoil it in the name of political, financial or personal gain; especially those who have never had the courage or fortitude to expend any kind of personal sacrifice or risk in the defense of country, constitution or even their own families (yeah I am talking to you Rush, Hannity, Edwards, Trebor, Beck, and the rest of the fat, hypocritical, blowhard paper patriots out there).

Their hollow rhetoric rings empty in the vast void created by their personal cowardice and inability to risk anything of consequence.

While some rest and relaxtion are in order now, look out for the return of the Conservative Fighter.

Conservatives, your days of running roughshod over people of differing opinions is over. Your ability to use the media to ruin your political opponents with lies, rumor and inuendo unchallenged, your constant quest for all encompassing power, your ability to lie and twist the rules and laws to benefit the already rich and powerful, your anti-christ-like racism, sexism, classism, and use of religion as a tool to divide and gain power...

ENOUGH!

Where in the world is the conservative fighter?

Thanks to all for your kind words and well wishes (except Andy). I cannot say much about what I am doing or where I am going. But I can tell you this, I am going to the middle east for a year. I don't have time to go into the details nor will I be able to update after today. I can tell you that I am doing this for a myriad of reasons one of which is to experience some of what is going on over there. I know many will be critical of my decision, but that is their problem to deal with.

Let me just close with this:

No one knows all of the reasons behind my decision. I hope you will at least support my motives even if you don't or can't understand them.

I wish you all well (except Andy) and I will talk to you again as soon as I am able (which may be a long time).

Big Unit will be able to provide vague updates in my absence.

The End of Conservative Fighter

After giving it much thought, I have decided to end Conservative Fighter for a while. After all of the energy and time I put into the build up to the election and the wasted time I have spent arguing with conservatives, I have decided that my energy would be better spent trying to make actual improvements in people's lives.

I do enjoy debate but the continuing arguments between the polar opposites in politics has become fruitless and unwinnable for the most part. I usually end up preaching to the choir and fighting those who disagree with me with sometimes vitriolic results.

I will be making one last update around the middle of January. Until then, I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Yule, Kwanzaa, Channukah, or just a joyful time with your families at the end of this fascinating, frustrating and ultimately vibrant and enjoyable year.

For those of you who know my future plans, I ask that you please keep them to yourself until after January 15th.

Baby Blues

Sorry about the lack of updates (and phone calls to the local friends). Having a new baby in the house is harder than I remembered. The brain washing capabilities endowed to babies is in full effect. 2 to 3 hours of interrupted sleep at a time, intermitent loud noises, forced catering to our new leaders every whim (must serve the little leader, must serve the little leader) and the like have completely depleted my will to write.

I will try to put something here ever few days but I will have to check with the little leader first. He is asleep now (sure, stay up all night then sleep all day while I have to do stuff, it is kinda like being the personal assistant to a petulant, self centered, pint sized egotistical rock star. But he sure is cute).

The cuteness thing is another little trick mother nature plays on you. She makes them adorable so you forgive all of their bad character traits. If human babies looked like baby birds, I don't think the majority would make it to puberty.

Check out Big Unit's new blog. He claims it is a common sense look at the world through his eyes. So far it is a little too conservative for my liking but it is a good place to argue.
